Padma Nadir Majhi is perhaps one of the finest films ever made in Bengali cinema. The care and love with which Manik Bandyopadhyay's great novel has been translated into cinema is apparent in every frame. The detail work is fantastic, and the lilting language of the fishermen rings in your ears much after the film is over.

I love the music of this film, in particular the boatmen's songs that are so beautifully woven into the fabric of the film. The direction is matched by some wonderful acting by Raisul Islam Asad. He brings Kabir to life, not just by the language (He was the advisor for the regional language usage) but by his body movents and gestures. Ably seconding him are Rupa Ganguly and Utpal Dutt.....
