Abohomaan tells the story of Aniket, one of the finest filmmakers of Bengal in eastern India and the loves of his life. Devoted to his craft, Aniket met and fell in love with his wife Deepti, an actress, while they worked together on the set of a film. They were so in love that Deepti sacrificed her own career for her husband's and for their son Apratim, but lost a little of who she was in the process.

The plot thickens when Aniket auditions a young actress, Shikha, who bares an uncanny resemblance to his wife when she was younger. Deepti enthusiastically begins to coach Shikha for her husband's film - so much so that Shikha becomes even more like the girl Deepti used to be and as a result the aging Aniket falls in love with Shikha, a woman as young as his son, despite the sadness and trouble it brings to his family

The Japanese Wife(2010)

.......Snehmoy (Rahul Bose) and Miyage (Chigusa Takaku) are pen friends who exchange wedding vows through letters. Fifteen years pass but they never meet. Yet the bond of marriage is strong between them. This unusual relationship comes under a cloud when a young widow, Sandhya (Raima Sen), comes to stay with Snehmoy along with her eight-year-old son Poltu. Snehmoy and the little boy bond and the arithmetic teacher discovers the joy of palpable bonds and fatherhood. There develops an inexplicable thread of understanding with Sandhya too. But Snehmoy remained loyal to his unseen Japanese wife. When Miyage was ill from cancer, he took a long leave from his school and tried his best to find a cure for the illness. Meanwhile, malaria took a toll on him and he died. Coming of Miyage in a white sari to Sunderbans after his departure was really touching........

Tintorettor Jishu

.......Tintorettor Jishu (Tintoretto's Jesus) is a mystery novel by Satyajit Ray about an adventure of Feluda. A movie directed by Sandip Ray has been made based on the story (released in December 2008). An extensive shoot schedule at Hongkong during May 2008 takes Feluda movies to a new height. The book was published by Ananda Publishers in 1983. A famous painting by the Italian maestro Tintoretto is with the Niyogi family. However, not everyone is aware of the value of the painting. One of the family members steals it, and international buyers are interested in it. Feluda chases the criminals all the way to Hong Kong. There was a surprise waiting for him there. Eventually, Feluda (with the help of a relative stranger) succeeds in solving the mystery...........

Shob Charitro Kalponik(2009)

......Non-resident Bengali Radhika (Bipasha Basu) marries the thespian poet Indranil Mitra (Prasenjit Chatterjee) to settle in Kolkata. While Indranil continues his surveillance of the surreal world of words, rhythms, rhymes and imaginations Radhika single handedly pulls out the private and public aspects of conjugal life. Radhika gets wholesome support from their housemaid Priyobala Das. While the apparently irresponsible and introvert Indranil does one menace after other, (like quilting his job after getting an award etc.) Radhika stands like a rock to make the family exist materially. But all these reluctancy and indifference from Indranil, makes Radhika’s heart oscillate towards Shekhar, her office colleague and Indranil’s biggest admirer. Radhika gets attracted towards Shekhar (Jisshu Sengupta), but can’t abandon the unpredictability and histrionics of her spouse. The benevolent woman remains awe struck when she hears about her husband’s demise while she was aiding her ailing mother during the Durga Pujas. Life never becomes the same again for Radhika. She begins to discover the dead poet through a mystic and subtle journey. She discovers Indranil’s woman of fantasy, Kajori Roy (Pauli Dam). Through the journey Indranil becomes more real to Radhika than what he was as a living entity. Radhika’s relation with Shekhar dies premature. She discovers that Indranil had lifted some of her own poems but through his she feels that the man was not indifferent to her. Radhika remains intertwined with the unknown galaxy of imagination within which she invents Indranil in an entirely unexplainable phenomena.......

Kaalpurush(2005)

......The film tells the story in a non-linear fashion, with two timelines being depicted simultaneously. Rahul Bose has a dysfunctional marriage with Sameera Reddy who has an extra-marital affair. Rahul tries to reconnect with his long-lost father (played by Mithun Chakraborty), while Sameera dreams of breaking free of her stifling domestic life. Rahul is considered as a failure both in professional and personal lives. However, an honest and simple man, he clings to simple joys of life and memories of his childhood. The back-and-forth movement of the story between two timelines (the present day and Rahul's childhood) and the arrangement of the sequences make Mithun a mystery man—he could be dead, alive, or, just a figment of Rahul's imagination.......

A tale of naughty girl/Mondo Meyer Upakhyan(2002)

movie plot:....Based on a short story by Bengali writer Prafulla Roy, the central idea developed by director Dasgupta, tells the story of a girl, Lati, whose mother Rajani is a prostitute living and working in a brothel in rural India. Rajani plans to offer her daughter to an older man, a rich husband and protector to her daughter. Lati, however, wants to return to school and finish her studies. Unwilling to pay such a price for material success, she runs away to Calcutta. The discovery of this new world is described parallel to other stories of emancipation, such as that of three young prostitutes, of an aged couple going nowhere and man's n landing on the moon. In a surrealistic approach typical of the director, a clumsy cat and an intelligent donkey are also present in the film.....

movie plot:.....Chowdhury is an IPS officer with a heart - honest, upright, yet laidback. Having lost faith in the real relationships that he sees around him, Abhik seeks solace in the virtual world. While navigating through this virtual world, Abhik develops an online relationship with a young woman, without knowing anything about her. She is Brinda - a young, dynamic television journalist. She comes from a conventional middle-class home, and her parents live in Jamshedpur. For both Abhik and Brinda, who do not know each others' real names and whereabouts, this online communication soon becomes an increasingly intense relationship, more real than virtual. While this relationship blossoms within the confines of two computer screens, Abhik gets his six minutes of fame on national television, when he successfully masterminds a raid on a consignment of illegal arms. Brinda telephones him to ask for an on-camera interview, but Abhik declines, stating that did not want to sensationalize the event any further. Ironically the virtual lovers, Abhik and Brinda have an acrimonious first meeting in the real world....

Padma Nadir Majhi (1991)

Padma Nadir Majhi is perhaps one of the finest films ever made in Bengali cinema. The care and love with which Manik Bandyopadhyay's great novel has been translated into cinema is apparent in every frame. The detail work is fantastic, and the lilting language of the fishermen rings in your ears much after the film is over.

I love the music of this film, in particular the boatmen's songs that are so beautifully woven into the fabric of the film. The direction is matched by some wonderful acting by Raisul Islam Asad. He brings Kabir to life, not just by the language (He was the advisor for the regional language usage) but by his body movents and gestures. Ably seconding him are Rupa Ganguly and Utpal Dutt.....

Antarmahal: Views of the Inner Chamber

movie plot:..In late 19th Century, Bengal Bhubaneswar Chowdhury (Jackie Shroff) is a wealthy and tyrannical Zamidar (Squire). He has two main obsessions: his desperate attempts for an heir, which even his new second wife Jashomati seems unable to deliver; and competing with his regional rivals to produce the most magnificent effigy of a goddess for the annual Durga Puja ceremony. This year he concocts a master plan - why not change the face of the goddess for the most powerful woman on Earth - Queen Victoria. Meantime his two wives Mahomaya and Jashomati try to look out for one another especially as Bhubeneshwar begins to sexually assault his younger wife each night.
